Abstract
The article treats the status of the faculties of public health in Europe, their self-defining, the kinds of schools of public health according to their organizational situation, human resources etc. Pointed out are the educational opportunities and degrees offered to the students. Given is the interesting, but hardly to be accepted fact, that „Public health" in the USA, because of historical developments there, does not belong to the medical disciplines and is accepted as a task of the whole society. Given are the trends for future development.
