Abstract

Medical Audit is a professionally undertaken initiative which aims to improve medical services quality for patients by: assessment and evaluation of medical services provided by medical providers; comparison of work activities with the set standards; improvement of the medical care delivery. The auditing process includes a certain sequence of activities and events, namely: definition of standards; criteria and aims or protocols for good medical practice whose standards are used for quality comparison; collection of systematic, objective and precise evidence for the provision of medical services; comparison of results with the standards and/ or exemplary levels of provision; individuation of weaknesses and ways for disposing of them; monitoring of the subsequent effects - “closing of the auditing cycle”.
