Abstract
There has been proposed a brief survey of the modern socio-medical approaches towards organising care of demented patients an their families. Bulgaria still lacks a differentiated health and social care system,offering alternative forms for supporting these people. For this reason the experience of the socially developed countries in this field may be useful for the reform in the health and social care system.
